Why Calathea and Alocasia are not beginner friendly plants:
(Click on the green names above to read the care guide of that plant! )
Calathea cons: Extremely dramatic plants, need lots and lots of light, high humidity, always seem to have a pest issue and in general a hard plant.
Calathea pros: Leaves are amazing and they have a cool growth structure
------------------------------------
Alocasia cons: Requires high humidity, moist but definitely not wet soil, prone to rot and spider mites, not stable, can drop all of its leaves in winter and go dormant, randomly decides to die and overall not beginner friendly if you don't have the right conditions, but it is a good plant if you want to challenge yourself! Just don't feel bad when it dies.
Alocasia pros: Very rewarding growth, grows corms automatically and basically propagates itself!
