Certain houseplants have typical traits. Let me go over them!
Before we start, today (March 18th) is my birthday! I turned 14 years old.
Calathea:
These are known for their dramatic behavior! Calathea are very picky about their living conditions, so be aware of that before buying one!
They need high humidity, high amounts of natural or grow light light but not direct light, stable temperatures, stable humidity, chunky-but not too chunky soil and need to be fertilized.
I have heard from multipule people about their Calathea dying, so they put it in the shower next to a window where it gets a good amount of light, a daily humidity boost and it has other benefits!
Alocasia:
Now i can keep certain Alocasia species alive, but i can say that i have killed a few...
See, Alocasia are VERY prone to rot and spider mites. Alocasia also go dormant in the winter, which can be confusing for a lot of people that are not really familiar with Alocasia.
Ways to avoid dormancy are: keeping stable temperature and humidty all year long, and putting it under a growlight!
