The plant market (and why it crashes)

2 years ago, a small Monstera thai constellation could easily cost up to €300, and now we see them for €12 in a big box store. Why?

Well, it is mostly because of Tissue Culture, a.k.a TC.

TC plants are cloned and grown in a sterile lab. With just one small leaf, you can clone it up to 100 times! Same genes, same plants. If you have a highly variegated Monstera with stable variegation, the clones will have the exact same genes!

Therefore, plants that used to be crazy expensive are now finally being cloned via TC and the prizes can come down and that makes it accesible to more and more people.

´´Can i just... buy... TC plants?´´

Yes you can! You can find plenty of TC sellers online with reasonable prices! You can buy the plants for yourself or to resell.

´´Is there anything special you have to do when you get the plants?´´

Yes, you need to acclimatize the plants by putting the plants in moss with perlite after the initial treatment (cleaning agar off the roots), then you have to put it in an air-tight container with humidity as high as possible and after a week slowely give it some fresh air. After a week or two, your plant is as good as acclimatized and ready to start growing!
