Colocasia Care Guide

Colocasia is a unique genus, with a ton of hybrids. Native to Thailand, these monsterous plants can grow bigger than 10 feet, but the Colocasia thai giant can grow bigger than 20 feet tall in its natural habitat.

WATERING :

Outdoors in warm climates, they thrive in wet dirt. Inside, they don´t mind having wet feet. They are way less tolerant to rot than Alocasia. Now i am always caucious with watering (i´m more of a underwaterer), so if you are like me, i´d just try to keep the soil moist. Keeping the soil moist triggers new offshoots to grow, which brings me to the next part!

PROPAGATION :

Colocasia, Alocasia and Leucocasia grow from corms/bulbs, which is basically just an underground energy storing stems. The bulb grow with the plant as it grows, and once it has reached maturity, it'll start producing offshoots/new bulbs which you can cut off one it has roots, and let it sprout in either water or soil.

LIGHT REQUIREMENTS :

Like most plants, the more light, the more growth. Give these plants a few hours of direct sunlight, and they will reward you with stunning growth. It can tolerate shade, but it won't make the plant happy.

------------------------------------

BLOOM :

Colocasia plants are all about those huge, gorgeous leaves, but they also have pretty unique flowers. They're usually small and tucked away, blooming in summer when the plants are mature. It's kinda rare for them to bloom indoors, though - they need perfect conditions to produce flowers.

Some fun facts :

Colocasia plants can grow up to 6 feet tall, and they're also known for their edible corms (like taro). Plus, they're super popular for adding a tropical vibe to gardens and indoor spaces!

MEDIUMS :

Colocasias are pretty flexible. They can grow in soil, water, hydroponics, or even sphagnum moss! Just make sure it's not too harsh or dry.
